FOTO follows renowned fashion photographer Struan on a journey to explore the many different facets of photography. From fashion to still life, portrait to documentary: the FOTO APP explores how the pros approach their craft in the many disciplines of photography.

FOTO with Struan

The "FOTO with Struan" project is a photography app built for delivery on the iPad. The app delivers the photography television show FOTO TV via streaming video to the iPad. The show will be broadcast on television as well as be available through the app. It also includes Facebook app integration where users can interact with each other and the photographers involved with the show. FOTO TV features photographers on location all over the world, including Struan. Struan is an award-winning and iconic professional photographer who has had his images published in countless publications (view bio). FOTO TV begins airing in the Fall of 2011 and the early release of the app is helping to build an audience before the show airs on television.

iPad users can choose which episodes to watch inside the app and as it is updated more episodes become available. Users can watch the show on their iPad screen or they can use the Apple airplay function. Airplay allows the user to watch the content from their iPad on a HD television via a connected Apple TV.

The app also delivers instructional videos in which Struan guides the user through all aspects of digital photography, from the initial camera purchase, lighting, lenses and filters, frame composition, etc. This is a great resource for photographers of any skill level. Another tool offered to the user is Facebook integration within the app. Users can access a private Facebook group in which they can upload photos they have shot. Once they have uploaded their photos, Struan will comment on the photos and offer suggestions. This creates one-to-one communication between Struan and users, further engaging them and keeping the audience interested in the TV show.
